Jo Ann (Gunter) Sirdoreus, age 87, of Grandview, Missouri passed away on Monday, October 10, 2022. She was a native of Winterset, Iowa graduating from Winterset High school in 1953. It was in high school she met the love of her life, Harold “Sid” Sirdoreus, whom she married on July 8th, 1952, just before he was sent to Germany while serving in the Army.
After Sid’s return from Germany, they relocated to the Kansas City area to start their life and family. Despite living the rest of her life in Grandview, she never forgot her home in Winterset, rarely missing an opportunity to return for visits. She cherished coming home for the Covered Bridge Festivals and high school reunions.
Despite her hectic schedule, family and friends were Jo’s passion and delight. She never met a stranger and enjoyed her time talking with others, always making them feel like a lifetime friend. She was an avid reader, accomplished square dancer, vigorous bowler and fierce cribbage player. She loved to travel, never missing an opportunity to stop and see family and friends along the way. When spending time at home she enjoyed tending her beautiful flower garden and planting sweet potato vines.
Jo is preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband Sid Sirdoreus; her parents Tom and Sarah Gunter; and brothers Larry and Gene Gunter. She is survived by brother Duane Gunter of Hot Springs Village, Ar.; son Steve Sirdoreus (Pam) of Lorimor, Ia.; daughter Elizabeth Nelson (Scott) of Smithville, Mo.; grandsons Christopher Nelson (Jane) and Kevin Nelson (Kori) both of Kansas City, Mo., great-grandson Benjamin Nelson of Kansas City, Mo. and a great-grandson due in January of 2023. She also has numerous nieces and nephews.
Jo will be greatly missed by everyone. A visitation will be held at McGilley and George Funeral Home in Grandview, Missouri on Monday, October 17 from 5 to 7pm; and in Winterset, Iowa at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home Wednesday, October 19 from 10 to 11am with funeral service at 11am, followed by a procession to the Winterset Cemetery.
