Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson is in charge of arrangements for Joan (Mrs. Louis) Livingston 80, formerly of Omaha and Glidden. Mrs. Livingston died at Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center in Fountain Valley, CA. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church in Glidden and burial at Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery. The family will greet friends at Visitation Friday June 22, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at HASTINGS FUNERAL HOME IN JEFFERSON. Joan (Emmert) Livingston, 80, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 10, 2018, in Fountain Valley, CA. Beloved wife of Louis for 59 years. Loving mother of Jeffrey (Maggie) Livingston and Linda (Andre') Gallardo. Proud grandmother of Abigail, Daniel, & Emma Gallardo. Dear sister of Beverly Countryman. Joan is also loved and will be missed by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. The first of two memorial services will be held at Heritage Mortuary in Huntington Beach, California on Monday, June 18th at 5:00 pm. Another service will be held at the Presbyterian Church in Glidden, IA, on June 23, 2018 at 10:00 am. A visitation for friends and family will be at the Hastings Funeral Home Friday evening June 22nd from 6:00-8:00 pm. Joan was born June 24, 1937, to Alden "Joe" and Velma (Brown) Emmert in Charles City, IA. In 1940, they moved to Fonda, IA. In 1955, Joan graduated from Fonda High. She went on to seek a Bachelor's Degree in Education at Buena Vista and received a Master's Degree from University of Omaha in the field of Special Education. While attending college at Buena Vista, Joan met Louis Livingston and they were united in marriage on August 3, 1958, at the Fonda Presbyterian Church. She taught school in Albert City, IA Atlantic, IA, Vermilion, SD, and Omaha, NE. Along with her husband they raised two children, Jeffrey and Linda. Joan spent summers fishing, teaching Vacation Bible School, and painting ceramics. When they became grandparents, they wanted to be actively involved in their grandchildren's lives and purchased a home in Westminster, California. Joan helped babysit her three grandchildren. She helped take care of them in addition to providing hours of fun, love, laughter, and great story telling. As her grandchildren grew, she was a fond supporter during their sports & extra curricular activities. Joan enjoyed traveling in recent years. She was proud to attend Jeff and Maggie's wedding in Houston, Texas in November 2016. One of Joan's greatest accomplishments came in the form of sharing the Lord's word with those who did not know Him. Her testimony of Faith, Hope, & Love encouraged the lost to seek Him. Her legacy of compassion and kindness will be left behind with fond memories.
