JoAnne Mapes, 61 of Perry, Iowa died Friday, January 8, 2016 at the Stratford Nursing and Rehab Center in Stratford. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 15, at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset, with burial to immediately follow in the Montpelier Cemetery, near Patterson. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services beginning at 10:00 a.m. Friday morning. Memorials in JoAnne’s name may be directed to the family for a later designation. JoAnne Belle Classon was born March 27, 1954, in Hampton, Iowa, the daughter of Wilmer and Donna (Bridges) Classon. She attended school in Jewell and graduated from South Hamilton High School in the class of 1972. Her marriage to David Wayne Mapes took place on May 14, 1994 at Perry, Iowa. During her working career, JoAnne provided day care from her own home. She was a member of the Four Square Church in Ames where she was an active member. She loved music and was a talented singer and enjoyed singing at church. She had a ‘green thumb’ and enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and canned much of what she produced in her garden. JoAnne enjoyed nature and found peace in watching butterflies and birds, especially hummingbirds and she also loved fishing. She also loved going to garage sales and auctions. Above all else, JoAnne loved people and some would say, she was a social butterfly. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who always gave great hugs and loving support to her family who were the center of her life. Survivors include her husband, David Mapes of Perry; two step-sons, Branden Mapes of Harlan and Jeremy Mapes of Perry; four children, Jennel Clarke of Boone, Rachael (Mel) Hitsman of Bagley, Andrea (Chris) Streigle of Ogden, and Adam Runge of Boone; three siblings, Carla (Neal) Rudnick of Ames, Janna (Glen) Sodders of Ellsworth, and Bill Classon of Wyoming; 15 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, extended family and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson. .
