Jody DeVerne Stout was born on a farm north of Murray, Iowa on April 13, 1928, the son of Otho Doan and Veronica (Letz) Stout. When Jody was ten, the family moved to a farm near Peru and he was educated in the rural schools and attended the Peru High School until the eleventh grade when the school closed in 1946. Subsequently, he attended his senior year at Winterset graduating in the class of 1947. During his working career, Jody worked in the book bindery for the Meredith Burda Corporation. He began his work with Meredith in 1950 and worked for 36 and a half years, retiring in 1987. Jody is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen C. Stout of Winterset; his children, Carol (Mervin) Petersen of Earlham; David Stout of Harlan; Larry (Junell) Stout of Winterset; Betty (Jeff) Hope of Winterset; his only sibling, a brother, Otho Loren (Niquita) Stout of Waukee; ten grandchildren (Scott (Pam) Petersen; Laura (Todd) Miskimen; Angela (Josh) Paglia; Jenna VanWyk; Kylie Stout; Jeremy Stout; Adam (Debbie) Stout; Ashley (Cassidy) McFarland; Justin Hope and Heather Hope) and nine great grandchildren (Cole and Grant Petersen; Gage and Teagan Miskimen; Jackson and Jaden Paglia; Allyah VanWyk; and Jace and Landyn McFarland). He was preceded in death by his parents. Jody loved camping, being outdoors, walking, reading and collecting model cars.
