Joe Wright (81), of Urbandale, IA, passed away on April 19th, 2025, after sustaining injuries from a fall.
Joe was born on October 1st, 1943, to Wendell and Marie Wright. He was raised in Jefferson, IA and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1962. He went on to serve in the National Guard for 4 years.
Joe was united in marriage to Gloria Brownrigg, of Creston, IA, on May 21st, 1966, in Perry, IA. They were blessed with two children- Tammy and Troy.
Together with their close friends and business partners, Joe and Gloria owned and operated the Waukee Meat Market and Adel Supermarket. Joe later worked at Nesbit/Doll Distributing as a Sales Supervisor and retired in 2010, after 32 years.
Joe had a passion for vehicle restoration and owned a 1939 street rod and a 1972 Cougar convertible. Joe and Gloria, along with their dog Howie, enjoyed their retirement lakeside at Lake Panorama. When he wasn’t tending to the yard, which was his pride and joy, he could be found with a cold one in his hand while boating, fishing, or on golf cart cruises with those he loved most. Joe and Gloria also loved to spend their time in Florida during the winter months.
Joe is survived by his wife, Gloria; his sisters, Mary (Dan) Miers and Cathy (Jeff) White; his children, Tammy (Steven) Stotts and Troy (Brandi) Wright; his grandchildren, Shelby (Reid) Hundt, Tanner Stotts, Jordyn Williams; two great grandchildren, Konnor and Saylor Hundt, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Wendell and Marie Wright, and brother, Marshall Wright.
A visitation will be held at St James Lutheran Church (5665 Merle Hay Rd. Johnston IA, 50131) on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with a memorial service to follow.
