He is survived by his wife, Genevieve of Winterset; four children, Patty Krueger and husband, Roger of Dawson, Iowa; Kathy Book and husband, David of Minburn, Iowa; Marjorie Van Mourik and husband, Bernard of Glen Ellen, California; and John E. Melroy and wife, Patricia of Winterset, Iowa; 17 grandchildren, Theresa, Doug, Melody, Tony, James, Sheryl, Natalie, Pamela, Denise, Thomas, Natasha, Petrissa, Alexei, Saskia, Angela, Heidi, and Chad; and 22 great grandchildren, Bridgette, Joshua, Cody, Jason, Chelsea, Tatjana, Kyle, Kelsey, Colin, Katherine, Logan, Nathan, Xander, Cortni, Mekayla, Austin, Brenden, Dylan, Alaric, Tala, Shania, and Justice. John was born June 8, 1915 in Madison County, Iowa, the son of Francis and Ellen (Monaghan) Melroy. His marriage to Genevieve Bruns took place on June 14, 1939 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset. After their marriage, they lived in rural Adel until 1963 when they moved back to Madison County. He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Edward, Francis, Thomas, Walter, James, and Charles; two sisters, Agnes and Sister Frances Marie; and two grandchildren, Mary Book and Roger Krueger Jr. John was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Winterset and Farm Bureau. He was a dedicated farmer all of his life and greatly enjoyed his family. Visitation: McDonald-Chase Cemetery, Madison County, Iowa Service: 10:30 a.m., Saturday October 18, 2003 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Winterset, Iowa Memorial: 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., with family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, where a Vigil Service will be held at 7.00 p.m. October 17, 2003 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare, Winterset, Iowa
