John Clark Irwin

John Clark Irwin (68) of Adel, Iowa, passed away after a long, hard fought battle with lung cancer, surrounded by family at MercyOne Des Moines on June 1, 2021. John was born on December 30, 1952 in Des Moines, Iowa, to Arthur and Evelyn (Carlise) Irwin. John married Mary (Plymesser) Irwin on June 20, 1981, and they enjoyed almost 40 years together. John graduated from Adel High School in 1971, where he enjoyed playing sports and running track. He then attended trade school to study auto mechanics, and spent the majority of his life as an auto mechanic for various dealerships in Iowa. In his free time, John enjoyed manicuring his lawn, puttering around his garage, spending time outdoors, hunting, helping out his neighbors, and spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter, Charlotte, who was the light of his life. He was looking forward to the arrival of his second grandchild. John is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, Tyler (Andrea) Irwin of Ankeny, IA, and Matthew (Joseph) Rorabaugh-Irwin of Lenexa, KS; granddaughter, Charlotte Irwin of Ankeny, IA; brothers, Darryl (Becky) Irwin, and William (Karen) Irwin; sisters, Jennie (Kenny) Spring, and Eva (Doug) Cook; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. John was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Evelyn Irwin; his brother, Gerald Irwin; and his sister, Sherryl Ratterree. A visitation will be held on Friday, June 4th, 2021 from 5pm-7pm at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home – McCalley Chapel in Adel, with a short prayer service beginning at 5pm. A Celebration of Life service will be held at The Mission Church in Urbandale on June 5th, 2021 at 1pm with a luncheon to follow.
