John Dautremont

John Thomas Dautremont was born August 23, 1954. He died on September 29, 2021 of respiratory failure, with his wife and children by his side. He was born the middle son of Louis B. and Marjorie (Willliams) Dautremont. He spent most of his life in Des Moines and was involved in many activities, including Boy Scouts, football and other sport activities. He attended Holy Family (Visitation); Dowling Catholic High School, attended The University of Dubuque, and he graduated from Kaplan with a business degree. John met Kathleen in 1977 on a "blind date." John said he knew by the third date he wanted to marry her. They married on June 24, 1978. To that union was born Charles and the twins Elizabeth and Michael. John had many interests and hobbies. He was an avid fisherman and was a member of Trout Unlimited. He tied many of the fishing flies he used for catching the big ones! He also was a member of woodcarving club and Issac Walton League. Finally he was parishioner at the Basilica of St. John and a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. John is survived by his wife Kathleen; children, Michael and Elizabeth; and grandchildren, Lillian, Liam, and Lola. He is also survived by his brother, James; sister-in-law Patricia; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, younger brother Paul and his oldest son, Charles. Visitation will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 4, 2021 at the Basilica of St. John followed by a prayer service at noon. The family request that everyone in attendance please wear a mask.
