Memorial: 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., with family present to receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, April 16, 2010 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare. John Edward Melroy was born February 26, 1948 in Des Moines, Iowa; the son of John A. and K. Genevieve (Bruns) Melroy. He graduated from Winterset High School in 1966. On November 7, 1992 he married Pat Wehrman. John is survived by his wife Pat of Winterset; his mother Genevieve of Winterset; three children, Angela Kirk (Dale) of Winterset, Heidi Melroy of Winterset, and John Chad Melroy (April) of Winterset; three sisters, Patty Krueger (Roger) of Dawson, Kathy Book (Dave) of Minburn, and Marjorie van Mourik (Bjourn) of Napa, CA; ten grandchildren, Cortni, Mekayla, Austin, Brenden, Dylan, Alaric, Tala, Remy, Justice, and John Tristan; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father John; a nephew Roger Krueger, Jr.; and a niece Mary Book. John began farming at an early age with his father. He farmed in Dallas and Madison County all his life. He enjoyed custom farming and dirt work, and loved working with cattle. He liked John Deere Tractors and Caterpillar Equipment. John farmed and worked full-time as a heavy equipment operator for the Madison County Secondary Roads Local 2919 for 29 ½ years. Since his retirement in the fall of 2008, John has enjoyed farming and working in his shop. He was looking forward to this year’s planting season. John enjoyed doing anything outdoors. He and Pat would ride short trips on their Honda trikes and they were planning more time to enjoy those trips together. John also loved time spent with his children and grandchildren. John died Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at his home. He was 62.
