John Francis Boyd

John Francis Boyd, 73, of De Soto, IA passed away on Saturday, December 16th, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family.

John was born October 11, 1950 to Daniel Leander "DL" Boyd and Regina (Lydon) Boyd. He spent his childhood in Stuart, IA until he went off to Vietnam to serve his country as a Marine from 1968 to 1971. Even after he returned home, John remained a proud veteran who often found ways to support his fellow service members in his community. Upon his return, John pursued a career in construction and spent many years working for Weitz company, and was a Union member of Laborers' Local 177.

John met his wife, Marilyn, in Des Moines and the two were married for 51 years and raised their son, Johnny, together. John was an incredibly proud father and grandfather, and loved any time that he got to spend with his grandkids. He especially loved cheering them on at their various sporting events, and even set up a baseball diamond in their backyard for the grandkids to play on. John was also a proud homeowner. He spent a lot of his free time making sure that his lawn was kept in immaculate condition, and that his home was always looking nice. He also spent some of his free time at Prairie Meadows - he had many great memories of playing the slots with his mother. He will be remembered as a fun and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many.

John is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers; Jim and Mike Boyd.

John is survived by his wife; Marilyn Boyd, son; Johnny (Shelby) Boyd, his grandkids; Johnny, Charlie, and Mia Boyd, his sisters Sandy (Mike) Alitz, Cathy (Rodger) Chambers, Linda Kurz, Mary Long, Patty Starmer and Joanie Putzke, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A visitation in honor of John will be held from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Adel Chapel. A graveside service with military honors will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Stuart following the visitation.
