John H. King, 90, of Creston, died Sunday, October 14, 2018 at the Greater Regional Hospice House in Creston. A graveside service with military honors will begin at 11 a.m., Friday, October 19, in the Moon Cemetery, near Macksburg. John Herren King, son of George M. and Daisy Dell (Herren) King, was born July 4, 1928, in Macksburg. John enlisted in the United States Marine Corp prior to graduating from high school, serving from 1946 until 1949 and attaining the rank of Corporal. He returned home to Iowa and graduated from Lorimor High School in 1951. He was united in marriage to Mary Frances Hatfield on September 24, 1950, in Macksburg. John worked highway construction for all of his working years and worked his way up to become a grading superintendent working for several companies, including: Booth & Olsen, Sioux City, R. B. Burch, Cedar Rapids, E. M. Duesenberg, Des Moines, McGruder, Eolia, MO, Cole Construction, Keosauqua and Shipley Construction, Burlington. He ended his career working with K. M. King in Burlington. He was a member of the Macksburg United Methodist Church and was a Mason. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who cherished nothing more than the time spent with his kids and grandkids. John is survived by two sons, Kevin (Carol) King of Yuma, AZ and Kim (Margie) King of Burlington; a sister, Mary Jo (Bob) Lowry of Urbandale; a brother, George (Sharon) King of Treynor; five grandchildren, Adam King, Aaron (Lauren) King, Darci King, Roxann (Brady) Bennett, and Kole King; six great-grandchildren, Bryson King, Brody King, Haley King, Elliott King, Charley Yager and Andi Caffrey, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, who died October 19, 2016; and brother and sister-in-law, Bill (Barbara) King.
