John Henry Graney

Hastings Funeral Home in Perry is in charge of arrangements for John Henry Graney, 75, of Perry. John died December 14, 2022 at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines. Celebration of Life Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 26, 2022 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. John Henry Graney "Johnny", son of Melvin Graney and Lafawn Walker Graney, was born June 2, 1947 in Perry, Iowa. John graduated from Perry High School in 1967. He made sure to make time for anyone and everyone he would see around town. John lived in Arizona for a short time, then in Missouri, before coming back to Perry in 2010. He married Shari Lynn Koelle on July 23, 2011 at the Washington Township School Chapel. John worked at Oscar Mayer for twelve years but was a farmer for most his life. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, and then became a Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan in the past few years. John loved taking fishing trips to North Carolina, where he caught a 45-pound catfish. The couple also liked to go on deep sea trips down in Florida. John liked listening to country music and watching the Walking Dead. He died December 14, 2022 at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. John was preceded in death by his parents Melvin and Lafawn, brothers Michael Kanealy and James "Jim" Kanealy, and sister Julie Mutuc. He is survived by his wife Shari Graney of Perry; son Jeffrey Graney (Keyana) of Des Moines; two grandchildren Xavier and Kamille; sister-in-law Janet Kanealy of Perry; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
