John Leo Jontz, son of John R. and Nellie Van Noy Jontz, was born April 14, 1915 on a farm near Woodward, Iowa and died December 8, 2005 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 90 years, 7 months and 24 days. Leo, as he was well known, was raised in rural Boone County and attended school at Woodward. In 1941, he was drafted into the United States Army and was a member of the 6th Armor Division serving during World War II. On February 6, 1943, Leo was united in marriage to Leora Pittman. They were the parents of two sons: Jeffry and John. Leo farmed most of his life neat Perry and Dawson. He also later worked in farm machinery sales, as well as an Electrolux salesman. Leo was a member of the American Legion for over 50 years. He was also a former member of the 6th Armored Association and former Farm Bureau member. On December 7, 1982, Leo was united in marriage to Vivian Anfinson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Vivian passed away in November of 2001. Leo was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Vivian, brothers: Jay and Ray; sister: Ila Greiman. He is survived by his sons: Jeffry Jontz and his wife Sharyn of Winter Park, Florida, and John Jontz of Woodward, Iowa; 4 grandchildren; 2 brothers: Guy Jontz and his wife Doris of Stuart, Iowa, and Bob Jontz and his wife Shirley of Clinton, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
