John Leonard Mcmichael

John Leonard McMichael, 88, passed away Saturday afternoon, January 2, 2010, at the Rowley Home in Perry. Leonard was born May 11, 1921, at home near Perry, Iowa. He was a 1939 Perry High graduate and married Elaine Alberta Anderson on June 3, 1944. He worked in the Vultee Aircraft assembly plant in Long Beach, CA, and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as the Aerial Engineer on a B-24 Reconnaissance crew over the South Pacific. He graduated from Dunwoody Institute in 1951 and was a building craftsman in Perry from 1952 until his retirement in 1986. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Jonathan and Jane Ann McMichael. He is lovingly survived by his wife Elaine, children, Paula (Randall) Allen of Perry and Mark (Sheri) McMichael of Des Moines. Also surviving are grandchildren Brent (Kelli) Allen, Christine Allen and Sam McMichael. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Perry. Hastings Funeral Home in Perry is in charge of the arrangements.
