John Martin Mullins, Sr.

John Martin Mullins Sr was born May 24th 1951 in Perry, Ia to Kenneth and Lorene Mullins, the youngest of 7. John was active in 4-H as a child and loved working on the farm. He graduated from  Dallas Center-Grimes High school in 1969 and attended DMACC auto mechanic school where he graduated in 1971. John was a member of the Air Force from 1971-1979 and during his service was a member of the Presidential Aircraft Squadron and participated in Richard Nixon's inaugural parade. John worked as an aircraft technician for 25 years at Des Moines Flying Service. He later went on to work for Pioneer Hybrid retiring in 2016.  John was a member of the American Legion Post 663 in Urbandale, IA.

He met and married Kathleen Magill while stationed at Andrew's Air Force Base in Camp Springs MD and moved back to Iowa in 1979.  He endlessly maintained the home where they raised their 5 kids. He built a deck, a garage, repaired the roof,  and always attended the kids soccer and baseball games. John also enjoyed taking his 1972 Nova to car shows and helped his son Daniel restore his very own 1972 Nova.

John is survived by his 5 children, John Jr (Tara) Mullins, Daniel ( Laurie) Mullins, Heather (Bobby) Mauro, Tim Mullins, and Patrick ( Lia) Mullins. 10 grandchildren, Kendall Mullins, Sanderson Mullins, Maggie Mullins, Kenny Mullins, Joey Mullins, Jackson and Lucy Mauro, Eva Mullins, Leo Mullins, and Ivy Mullins sisters Beverly Plant, Sara Arndt(Wayne), Mary Finch(Earl) and Brother James Mullins.

John was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen Mullins of 44 years, his  parents Lorene and Kenneth Mullins. His sister Patricia Dohrman and his brother Ronald Mullins.

Funeral service for John will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home. VIsitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, August 25, 2023 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home. Interment will be in Glendale Cemetery with military honors conducted.
