John Michael 'Mike' Koziol

Mike Koziol, 71, entered into eternal rest with Christ his Savior on January 10, 2017 after bravely battling bile duct cancer for over a year. Funeral mass will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 13th at St. John’s Catholic Church in Adel with burial at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 12th at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel where family will greet friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer and memorial service at 7:00 p.m. He grew up in Centerville, Iowa and was the only child of John and Marie (Angaran) Koziol. He graduated from Truman State University and after a tour of duty in Vietnam he became a Special Agent for the FBI, proudly entering under Director J. Edgar Hoover. While an agent, he was a member of the SWAT team. He had a great sense of humor and never met a stranger. He always made spending time with his family a high priority and could always be found at all his children’s various activities. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on classic cars and was a member of the Iowa Heartland Impala Car Club. He also enjoyed making wolverine collars Mike married his college sweetheart Mary Lee Orr on March 20, 1971 and together raised their three children. Mike was an active member of St. John’s Catholic Church and through the years has been a CCD teacher for 25 years, lector, usher, and member of the Parish Council. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Jonathan Koziol Lee. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 46 years Mary Lee; daughter Kimberly (Ken) Lee and their children Kenneth, Andrew, Micah, Carissa, and Caroline of Van Buren, Ohio; son Dr. Scott Koziol of Waco, Texas; daughter Michelle (Eric) Jingst and their children Josiah, Zachary, and Julia of Adel, Iowa; and sister-in-law Joan (Bill) Wright of Des Moines, Iowa.
