John O'Leary

John O’Leary, 83, of Des Moines passed away on March 15, 2018 at Wesley Acres. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at the Basilica of St. John in Des Moines, with a visitation one hour prior to the mass. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery. John was born on September 9, 1934 to Richard and Cecilia O’Leary. John served in the United States Army and was stationed in Alaska for 2 years. He was a Des Moines Police Officer for 5 years before becoming a counseling coordinator at Oakdale in Coralville. He retired in 1989. John is survived by his children, John Vincent O’Leary, Grace (Tim) Lemar, and sister, Sharon Bishop. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings; Patricia, Kathleen, Mary, Tom, Fred, Richard, and former spouse, Neva Whittington. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to The Basilica of St. John or Welsey Acres.
