John Rehard, 69, of Peru died Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at West Bridge Care and Rehab in Winterset. A visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 19, at Ochiltree Funeral Service where the family will be present to receive friends during this time. Funeral Service to follow at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 19, at Ochiltree Funeral Service. Burial with military honors will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Madison County. Memorials may be directed to Lucky Paws of Madison County and online condolences may be left at ochiltree.com. John Phillip Rehard, son of Donald and Augusta (Bloomquist) Rehard, was born May 20, 1948, in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from Winterset High School in 1966 and continued his education at a trade school in Creston. John served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict. John was united in marriage to Nancy Zook in June of 1993 in Las Vegas, Nevada. John worked for the City of Winterset for most of his working career, serving in the animal control department but helped wherever he was needed. He was a member of the American Legion Post #184 in Winterset. John loved vintage cars and tractors and enjoyed going to numerous shows to see the restored machinery. He enjoyed being outdoors especially camping and fishing. John and Nancy liked to sit and enjoy their land, listen to nature and take care of their cats. He was known to drink coffee around town and visit with whomever would be passing by. Above all else, John was a loving and loyal husband, step-father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, who cherished the time he was able to spend with the ones he loved. John is survived by his wife, Nancy Rehard of Peru; step-sons, Tony Schilling; Mike (Laura) Schilling; Jeff (Angie) Schilling; six step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Augusta Rehard.
