Joseph Francis Lemon

Joe “Francis” Lemon, 83, of Winterset, died peacefully Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at West Bridge Care and Rehab in Winterset. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 17th at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset, with a visitation held one hour prior to services. Joseph Francis Lemon was born April 17, 1931 in Madison County, Iowa; the son of LeRoy and Dorothy (Sheldon) Lemon. He married Faye Vandewater on December 1, 1950 and to this union five children were born. Joe worked in a variety of jobs during his working career. He worked as a farmhand, in construction, meat packing plant, was a carpenter and roofer, worked as a janitor, and drove school bus for the Winterset Schools. He loved playing cards, fishing, gardening, growing flowers, playing piano, playing horseshoes, and dancing. He especially enjoyed time spent with his family and friends. He is survived by his five children, Nancy (Ed) Allen, Danny (Jan) Lemon, Peggy McFee, Ricky (Debbie) Lemon, and Cindy (Denny) Crase all of Winterset; 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill (Betty) Lemon, John (Janet) Lemon; a sister, Dora Hibdon; and a sister-in-law, Joan Lemon. He also leaves a special friend, Marge and many other friends. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James Lemon; a brother-in-law, Emmeda Hibdon; two grandsons, Todd Lemon and Chad Lemon; and a son-in-law, Rex McFee.
