Joseph P. Sciorrotta

August 8, 1943 — November 22, 2021

Joseph Peter Sciorrotta (Joe), born in Des Moines, Iowa August 8th, 1943. He was the son of Nick and Connie Sciorrotta, and brother to Sam and Tony Sciorrotta. Proceeding in death of his mother, father, and younger brother, Tony Joe attended Dowling High School where he excelled in football. He ran away from home at the age of 16 and joined The United States Marine Corps and served 6 years during the Vietnam War. He was very proud to be attached to the 3rd Recon Battalion, Alpha Company. After serving he married Mary DeCarlo. They had a son Nick from their marriage. He later played professional football for 6 years and was affiliated with the Minnesota Vikings. He played right linebacker. He went on to become a cosmetologist and then met up with the legendary Paul Mitchell. They became close friends and Paul took him under his wing and they traveled the all over the world together. He won several haircutting awards, but his true love was always to help out another hairstylist. He became involved in several movies, and he later started writing and directing movies himself. He met many famous movie stars and became friends with them. Joe’s biggest love is the movie makers in Iowa. During all this time he was also a real estate agent for Iowa Realty. For 30 years he sold millions in real estate, where he enjoyed handing buyers the keys to their future. He met the love of his life and married Francine Michael. They raised four children together Nick, Felica, Joe and Mario. He was very proud of his family. He got them into movies as well as real estate. His wife Franci was a sparkle in his eyes. He always says his Facebook Friends are his family too. He leaves behind his wife, Franci; Son, Nick (Julie) their sons Nicky and Rocky and great granddaughter Leiah Sciorrotta; Daughter, Felica (Brian) Nadeau and their son Brice and daughter Briley; Son, Joe (Jen) their sons Gino, Anthony and Dominic; Son, Mario and his sons Mario and Moscato and daughters Mya and Mariah. A visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 PM on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory in Urbandale, with a Rosary at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in West Des Moines. Burial with military honors will follow at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family.
