Josh Callahan, 23, of Winterset died Tuesday, June 3, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 12 at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset with burial and full military honors to follow in the Winterset Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 11 at Ochiltree Funeral Service with family present to receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorials in his name may be made to the family in C/O Union State Bank, Box 110, Winterset, Iowa 50273. Online condolences may be made to the family at ochiltree.com. Joshua James Callahan born in Des Moines on March 17, 1991, the son of Jeffrey and Ronda (Shaffer) Callahan. He grew up in Winterset and was a 2010 graduate of Winterset High School. Josh enlisted in the United States Army in 2010 and served his country in Afghanistan from April 2011 to April 2012. He was later stationed in Alaska and upon his honorable discharge in June of 2013 he re-enlisted with the Iowa Army National Guard. Josh enjoyed snowboarding, spending time with his friends and always looking for that one special girl. He also enjoyed working out, listening to music and shopping for clothes. He is survived by his mother, Ronda Shaffer (Mark McKeever); siblings, Kile (Laken) Callahan; Clayton (Rachel) Callahan all of Winterset; Jamilee (Mikel) Pickett of Colorado Springs, CO and nieces and nephews, Aaliyah, Adam Jeffrey ‘A.J.’, Alivia, Wesley, Chloe, Cayden and Bennett. He is also survived by his grandparents, Donna Shaffer of Winterset; Mike and Nancy Callahan of Norwalk; great grandmothers, Elizabeth Ripley of Johnston, Cleta Watson of Des Moines; several aunts, uncles, extended family and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Jeff Callahan, his grandfather, Ronald J. Shaffer and great grandparents, Bill and Bernice Williams, Ben and Rachel Callahan and John Shaffer.
