Juanita F. Hircock

Juanita was born January 7, 1931 in Benson, Minnesota, the daughter of Roy and Gladys (McDonald) Nelson. She grew up eight miles south of Benson, attended country school and later graduated from Benson High School in 1948. She went on to attend nurses training at Mounds Midway in St. Paul. After becoming a nurse she worked in Los Alimos, CO and was married to Roger Hircock on May 12, 1952. After her marriage, she and Roger made their home in Colorado Springs, CO where she worked at the base hospital and a local doctor’s office. After returning to Winterset in 1952, Juanita was employed by the Madison County Memorial Hospital for 24 years. While in Winterset she worked primarily as a surgical nurse. Later she worked as a Pool Nurse in Des Moines until her retirement in 1992. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers-in-law, Robert Grace, Edward Lagred and Kent Stockham. Juanita was a member of the Grace Baptist Church, Winterset. She is survived by her husband of 54 years; two daughters Ramona Peterson and husband, Dr. Gregory of Des Moines, Judy Leaf and husband, Curt of Minneapolis, MN, a son, Larry Hircock of Benson, MN; four sisters, Myrtle Grace of Willmar, MN; Frances Lagred of Benson, MN; Ann Stockham of Carroll; Margaret Nelson of Willmar, MN; two brothers, Donald Nelson and wife, Barbara of Benson, MN; Gene Nelson and wife, Virginia of Benson, MN; nine grandchildren (Jacqueline Kuhlemeier and husband, Jason; Justin, and John Holliday; Jessica Hircock; Mandy Wagner, Elizabeth, Christina, Courtney and Megan Leaf); one great grandchild (Garrett Tyler). Visitation: 1:00 to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, where family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. A Family Tribute Service will be held at 7:30. January 2, 2006 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset, Iowa. Service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2006 at Grace Baptist Church. Memorial: Memorials may be directed to the Grace Baptist Church.
