Judith (Judie) Ann Crowley, passed away on June 27, 2023, at Iowa Methodist in Des Moines. She was born on July 8, 1942, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Frederick and Gladyce (Pfeninger) Frederickson.
Judie grew up in Waconia, Minnesota, and graduated from Waconia High School in 1960. She pursued her passion for cutting hair by completing cosmetology school. It was during this time that Judie met the love of her life, Jim Crowley, while he was serving in the military at Saint Bonifacius. They exchanged vows on April 30, 1966, and together they embarked on a new chapter of their lives, settling in Des Moines, Iowa, They were soon blessed with three children, Jennie, Julie, and Jim.
Judie and Jim shared a love for adventure and spent their summers camping across the United States to visit family with their three children. Family was the cornerstone of her life. Once her kids were grown, Judie cherished moments spent playing Mahjong with her friends, hanging out with her Loose Threads ladies, and cheering on her grandchildren at their events.
Judie's faith played a significant role in her life, and she was an active and devoted member of St. Theresa Catholic Church. Her involvement in the church community brought her immense joy, and she selflessly dedicated her time and energy to various activities and initiatives. She served on the school board, ran funeral dinners, was in a Rosery band, provided food for the homeless, and so much more.
Judie was an avid sewer. She made all of her children’s clothing while they were growing up, even Jennie’s wedding dress. After years of working at So-Fro Fabrics and developing her love of crafts, she realized her dream of opening and co-owning her own store, Serendipity. She then started her hobby of making quilts, including making one for each of her granddaughters, and frequently attended quilt retreats for enjoyment.
She is survived by her children, Jennie (Dave) Schinkel, Julie Crowley, and Jim (Linda) Crowley II; grandchildren, Alyssa Schinkel, Lyndsie (Taylor) Lujan, Paige (Jake Strong) Crowley, Brianna (Nate Gettys) Crowley, and Sydney Crowley; great-grandchildren, Jaxson Strong and Kash Vasey; brother, Rev. Bruce (Ann) Frederickson, as well as numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and her loyal canine companion, Lexi. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, and parents, Frederick and Gladyce Frederickson.
