Judy Tatz

October 15, 1940 — February 27, 2020

Judy Rossiter Tatz, age 79, died surrounded by family in Johnston, Iowa on Thursday February 27, 2020. Judy was born October 15, 1940 in Des Moines, Iowa to John and Helen (King) Rossiter. She grew up in Des Moines and graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy. Known to her family as “Pookie,” she was very close to her parents and siblings and had many friends that became lifelong friends. As life progressed, Judy poured her heart and soul into her children and grandchildren. She was caring, generous and giving, including being the nice lady who always gave full-size candy bars out on Halloween. Her house was “that house” in the neighborhood with an open door policy for all the kids to walk on in and help themselves. Judy loved and went all out for holidays. She especially loved Christmas. She used to say that of all the shortcuts people take in life, referring to “Xmas” shouldn’t be one of them – Christ should not be taken out of Christmas. This world has lost one of its genuinely kind-hearted, nice people who had a knack for making others feel special, but Heaven has gained a soul for all of the children and puppies up there to flock to for hugs and treats. But beyond her kindness was an old-fashioned work ethic that made sure her family was always taken care of. In addition she was a passionate advocate for and contributor to any cause that she decided to sink her teeth into. Mostly, it was her smile, laugh and unconditional love that will be missed by family and friends alike. We know those Irish eyes will keep smiling bright in Heaven. She is survived by her four children John (Jeni) Tatz of Peoria, AZ, Jennifer Tatz (Pat) McGinn of Chandler, AZ, Steve (Lisa) Tatz of Urbandale, Iowa, and Suzy Tatz of Peoria, AZ; her 15 grandchildren and step-grandchildren, one great-grandchild and two step-great-grandchildren; her brother John (Cheryl) Rossiter of Altoona, Iowa, and sister Pat Rossiter (Jeff) Thomas of Des Moines, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews and their families. She is reunited in Heaven with her parents and her sister Corinne Rossiter Brightman. A Visitation will be held on Friday, March 6, 2020 at Saint Augustin’s Catholic Church, 545 42nd St., Des Moines, Iowa, at 10:00 a.m. followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m. The family would like to thank MercyOne Hospice in Johnston for the wonderful care and support provided to Judy in her final days.
