Julia Brooks Gentleman

Julia Brooks Gentleman died on December 13, 2023.  Ms. Gentleman was born in Des Moines, Iowa on August 24, 1931, the daughter of Marguerite (Palcho) and John Woolson Brooks.  She attended Greenwood Elementary School, Callanan Middle School and Theodore Roosevelt High School in Des Moines and was graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois with her degree in Political Science.

Ms. Gentleman served in the Iowa Legislature from 1975 through 1990, first in the House of Representatives and then in the Senate.

Ms. Gentleman was predeceased by her husbands, Gregor Gentleman and Darrell Book.  She is survived by daughters Karen Gentleman (Michael McCarty) of Indianapolis, IN; Marcia Gentleman of Plainfield, IN and Katherine Puettmann (Scott) of Estero, FL and her sons Brooks Gentleman (Kelly) of Kansas City and MacGregor Gentleman (Amanda) of Sebring, FL as well as 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Planned Parenthood of the Heartland.

No services are planned, according to her wishes.
