June Winchell, daughter of Frank Irvin Laughman and Lillie Mae Smith, was born March 14, 1928 on her parents' farm near Dallas Center, IA, and died November 5, 2016 at the Rowley Memorial Community in Perry, IA at the age of 88. June lived in Perry while growing up and graduated Perry High School in 1946. She was united in marriage with Dale Francis Winchell on November 15, 1946 at the Methodist Church parsonage in Des Moines, IA. They were blessed with two daughters Marilyn Kay and Betty Mae. June and Dale farmed in the Grand Junction area. She always loved the farm and the beauty of it all. June worked alongside Dale until his passing in 1975. She then moved to Perry and continued to stay busy. June's career with ALCO spanned 23 years. She was a dedicated and loyal employee. June's greatest love and joy was her family. She was known as "Grammy June" to her own family as well as many loving nieces and nephews. June was the matriarch and substitute mother. Her love of decorating for all holidays was probably more for the joy of her girls and grandchildren and extended family. June went all out for Christmas and provided many yearly get togethers filled with love and marvelous cooking. She just made everything special. A fun filled, treasured memory was when she was the first "Mrs. Claus" on the ALCO float in the lighted Christmas parade. June was always enthusiastic about any trip out and about, and she really enjoyed each and every craft show. She kept busy with plastic canvas work, reading, puzzle books, and board puzzles. June was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dale, and all of her siblings, Carl Laughman and wife Nancy; Orpha Jones; Alice Boyden and husband Frank; Mary Thomas and husband Herb; and Fay Gallant and husband Marvin. June will be deeply missed by her daughters Marilyn Schirman and husband Bob of Perry; and Betty Poundstone and husband Bill of Amboy, Washington; grandchildren Angie Schulz; Andy Schirman and wife Lindsey; Tony Poundstone and wife Kristin; and Sara Baugh and husband Jack; great grandchildren: Nicholas Schulz and wife Emily Ann; Kylie Schulz; Kainen, Hudson and Tripp Schirman; A.J., Jake, and Tyler Poundstone; and Brandon Baugh; great-great- grandchildren: Jackson and Codyn Straight; many devoted nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
