Justin Davis

Justin Edward Davis, 43, passed away suddenly from illness in the loving arms of his family on Tuesday November 6, 2018 at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. Justin was born, with his signature dimple-filled smile, to his loving parents Dan and Barb in Brighton, Michigan on November 29, 1974. He was the first grandchild of Doc and Rusty Davis and Ed and Dorothy Havrilla. The next role he filled in life was as big brother to Allison, Danny and Kristen. He spent his childhood and adolescence playing sports; football, wrestling, and track and field while attending Southeast Polk High School and the University of Iowa. Justin never wavered in his love and devotion to his family. That love was rivaled for the first time when he met the love of his life Ericca (Chance) in 2000. His adoration and devotion to his wife was rivaled for the first time and forever more when his son Theodore Edward was born on December 3, 2001. Justin was passionate about sports, particularly the Cleveland Browns, Indians, and Cavs; the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Tottenham Hotspur, which he travelled to London to see twice. Yet, there was nothing he loved more than watching his son Theo, a Dowling Maroon, play football, basketball, baseball, track and wrestling. Justin was commissioner to both his fantasy football and baseball leagues for nearly 20 years. He continued mastering his craft as a web engineer. Justin had an enormous passion for music, and was a naturally gifted bass player playing for the Jama Project or gathering to play with friends and family. He could tell you the name and artist of every song and adored the record collection he and Ericca had inherited and expanded. Justin’s son Theo said it best, “It’s not about missing someone – it’s about remembering everything they’ve done.” Left to honor that are his loving wife Ericca and beloved son Theodore, father Dan (Jill) Davis, mother Barb (Kelly) Katch, grandmother Dorothy Havrilla, sister Allison (Craig) Salow, brother Dan (Henna) Davis, sister Kristen (Patrick) Rogers, nieces Lillian and Lucille Abild, step siblings Matt (Julia) Simpson, Kelly (Bruce) Weliky, Kristi Simpson, Danielle (Bill) Snook, step nieces Ella and Grace and step nephews Gavin and Austin, mother-in-law Dee Dee (Dennis) Dabb, in-laws Charlotte (Tryg) Bundgaard, Amanda (Josh) Berkley, Anthony Chance, Cassaundra Chance, Nikkie Dabb, nieces Ella, Elery, Aspyn, Arizona and nephews Trystan and Jackson. Justin was preceded in death by his grandfathers Edward Havrilla and Doc Davis, grandmother Rusty Davis, uncles Rob Davis and Jim Havrilla and father-in-law Kirby Chance.
