Karen (Kaye) Lue Breckenridge, daughter of C.B. & Bernice McAninch Thompson was born on January 27, 1932 in a farm home located near Hatfield, Missouri and departed this life on September 25, 2023.
At 4 years old her education began in a one room school house 3 miles NW of Hatfield. At age 10 her parents moved the family to Creston, Iowa where her education continued. She graduated from Creston High School in 1949. In later years, she graduated from SWCC as a nurse's aid and worked at both the Mt. Ayr and Creston hospitals.
On April 30, 1950 she married Dean (Bud) Breckenridge. Their marriage was blessed with 3 sons, Mike, Dennis and David. Her family was put above everything else. She dearly loved being a Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and a friend to everyone. Treasured time was spent with her grandchildren.
Traveling, dancing and bingo was always time well spent with Bud. She chose to make changes – not excuses, to be useful – not used, to have self esteem – not pity and to listen to her inner voice – not the random opinions of others. She was very happy to be who she was. She was a wonderful cook, homemaker and a very proud Mother.
After living in SW Iowa during their married life, Bud and Karen moved to Waukee, Iowa in 2008 to be closer to their family.
Preceding her in death were her husband Bud, her parents CB and Bernice Thompson, sister Carmen O’Brien, and brother Maurice (Moe) Thompson.
She is survived and lovingly remembered by her sons, Mike (Karen), Urbandale, Dennis (Vicki), Waukee, and David (Sylvie), Destin, Florida; eight grandchildren, Ashley (Jarrod) Sutton, Tracey (Brent) Fees, Adam (Sara) Breckenridge, Abby Breckenridge, Ryan Breckenridge, Kevin (Katie) Breckenridge, Nathan (Samantha) Breckenridge, Amy (Josh) Barkley; nine great grandchildren, Camdyn Sutton, Jacob & Katie Fees, Eilana & Cayden Barkley and Harper & Harlow Breckenridge, William and Aaron Breckenridge; sister-in-law Marletta Thompson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.caldwellparrish.com.
Miss Me - But Let Me Go
When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me
I want no rites in a gloom filled room
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little, but not for long
And not with your head bowed low
Remember the love that once we shared
Miss me, but let me go.
For this is a journey we all must take
And each must go alone.
It's all part of the master plan
A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick at heart
Go to the friends we know.
Laugh at all the things we used to do
Miss me, but let me go.
