Hastings Funeral Home of Perry is in charge of arrangements for Karl Albert Borgeson, 75, of Des Moines, formerly of Rippey, who died February 18, 2014 in Des Moines. Services will take place at a later date. Karl was born to Karl Gunner and Ruth Evelyn Bernardina (Anderson) Borgeson on May 17, 1938 on a farm south of Rippey. In 1944 the family moved to a farm west of Rippey. As a youth Albert enjoyed hunting and fishing and attended Rippey Consolidated Schools where Washington Winners 4-H Club and FFA filled his time. He enjoyed showing animals and going on the FFA trips that J.J. Peters organized for many years as well as participating in plays at the Rippey Little Theater. After graduation in 1956, he farmed with his father and brother and worked on the Pipeline until induction into the army in September 1961. After spending 1962-63 in Germany, Albert returned to Iowa to continue farming with the family. On February 9, 1964 Albert married Donna Whiteing and they had a son David Albert and a daughter Karen Kay. Until retirement, Albert drove semi-truck. Throughout his life he enjoyed dancing, hunting, fishing and talking with people. He and Donna later divorced and David and Karen grew up in Vail, Iowa. Services are pending at this time. Survivors include son David Borgeson (Fiancee-Marilyn Wolfe) of Jefferson and daughter Karen Johnson (Scott) of Garwin; three grandchildren, Cory Bald and Andrew & Jessica Johnson; a sister-in-law Jean Borgeson of Rippey and other relatives and friends. Memorial donations can be made to the Bike MS Organization that supports those with MS. Karen is participating in a charity bike ride this summer sponsored by this organization. David and Karen would like to support other families suffering with MS through this charitable cause.
