She was the middle of three children, her siblings being Earl Binns and Maryann Garrison. She attended Country School Drake #3, Winterset Community Schools and later graduated from East High School in Des Moines. Later in life, she continued her education at AIB. Katherine married Charles J. Herrick on August 14, 1955. They were the parents of two children, Bob and Susan. Katherine worked for Northwestern Bell/US West. She also liked crocheting, needlepoint and sewing, making many of her own and her children’s clothes. Some of her other hobbies were reading, painting, dancing and camping. Charles and Katherine wintered in Arizona for many years, and she taught others in her mobile home park how to quilt. Katherine was a Red Hat Lady during her time in Arizona. She also was a lifetime member of The Telephone Pioneers of America. Her time with her family was what she cherished most of all. Katherine was preceded in death by her parents.
