Anna Katherine Livingston, 97, passed peacefully in her sleep May 5, 2024, in her apartment at the Suites of Ankeny.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at the Winterset Community Church with Pastor Scott O’Conner officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior, beginning at 10:00 a.m. The body has been cremated and she will be joined together with her beloved husband and interred in the Lorimor Cemetery.
Katherine was born on October 15, 1926, on the family farm in Madison County, Iowa to Ray and Alice (Phillips) Handley. She graduated from Lorimor High School in 1944. She then moved to Des Moines and worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company until her marriage. She married on February 1, 1948, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Jack Boyd Livingston.
Katherine was a homemaker while she and Jack raised five children on the family farm near Lorimor. Later in life, she became a home health aide and worked out of the Creston Regional Hospital until her retirement. She enjoyed her work of helping her clients. She was a member of the Lorimor United Methodist Church and the Winterset United Methodist Church.
Katherine and Jack moved from the farm to Winterset, Iowa, in 2001. After losing her husband of 59 wonderful years, she moved to North Ward Plaza in Winterset. And in 2020, she moved to Ankeny, Iowa, to be closer to family. Family was always a great joy to her.
She had a love for quilting and embroidering. Through the years she made dozens of quilts, including quilts to celebrate the birth of each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her handiwork is treasured by her family and friends.
Katherine is survived by her daughter, Sherry (Mark) Lund of Jewell; sons, Greg (Darcy) Livingston of Johnston and Rod (Deborah Murray) Livingston of Fernandina Beach, FL; daughters-in-law, Kathleen Livingston of Winterset and Kristi Livingston (David Johnson) of Columbia, MO; twelve grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; special caregiver, Pam Ricker, niece; and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons, Steven Livingston and Malcom Livingston; an infant granddaughter, Jacquelyn Lund; and great-grandson, Ethan Livingston.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a future designation or a donation to a charity or institution of choice.
