Katherine Louise Macias, daughter of Burl Thomas Corrigan and Susan Juanita Fetty, was born April 9, 1969 in Des Moines, Iowa and died January 4, 2012 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa at the age of 42. A service was held 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 9, 2012 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry for Katherine. Words of comfort were provided by Rev. Paul Burrow of First United Methodist Church in Perry. Her honorary bearers were Miguel Macias, Tony Lowry, Cindy Lowry, Kerry Corrigan, Kristopher Corrigan, and Kiley Davis. Katherine's casket bearers were Chad Lehnhoff, Jeremy Lehnhoff, John Davis, Khalid Badwi, Trever Clark, and Dylan Davis. Interment was at Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry. Following the burial there was a time of refreshments and fellowship at the Perry American Legion Hall. Katherine graduated from Perry High School in 1988 and then attended La James School of Beauty. Katherine was blessed with her daughter, Kamie, in 1990 while living in Perry. She worked for Head Start, provided childcare in her home, and later worked as a Resident Treatment Worker at Woodward State Hospital. Katherine started her battle with cancer in 1996. She endured years of chemotherapy and radiation. In spite of all her health issues she remained upbeat and her family describes her as "giggly". Katherine and Miguel Macias were married in 2001. They have a son Gavin who lives at home. Katherine enjoyed shopping very much, camping, crafts for home decorating, and traveling. She loved traveling and especially was very content near the ocean. Katherine was able to enjoy three oceans and see her beloved dolphins. Her greatest joy, however, was loving her grandchildren, Isaiah and Nazik. Throughout her journey with cancer, she was an active supporter of Breast Cancer Awareness. Katherine was baptized and confirmed in the First United Methodist Church in Perry. Katherine is preceded in death by grandparents Burl and Dorothy Corrigan Sr., Truman and Katherine Fetty, an uncle, Jim Fetty, and a nephew Antonio Ramirez. Katherine is survived by her husband Miguel of Des Moines; daughter Kamie Coles (Khalid Badwi) of Des Moines; son Gavin Macias; her mother, Susan Lehnhoff (Lawrence) of Perry; her father, Burl (Tom) Corrigan (Tanna) of Dawson; and two grandchildren, Isaiah Godoy and Nazik Badwi. She is also survived by her siblings: Tony Lowry and Cindy Lowry both of Jamaica; Kerry Corrigan of Perry; Chad Lehnhoff and Jeremy Lehnhoff both of Grand Junction; Kristopher (Heather) Corrigan of Perry; Kiley Davis (John) of Grand Junction; and Kurtis Lehnhoff (companion Damien Prevo) of Perry; many aunts and uncles including her guardian angel Aunt Sheryl Septer; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. www.hastingsfh.com
