Katherine Poschner

Katherine Barber Poschner, 67, passed away peacefully surrounded by her three children on May 19th, 2016. Kathy was born May 20, 1948 in Irvington New Jersey. She received her nursing degree and married Dr. Joseph Poschner in 1969. They moved to Des Moines and had three children. Kathy's husband preceded her in death in 1985. Kathy was a devoted nurse in the Des Moines area for 38 years. She worked at Iowa Lutheran Hospital and served as a recovery nurse at Harold Hughes Recovery Center at Des Moines General Hospital. Kathy P. was very active in the AA and NA community in Des Moines. She sponsored many recovering addicts and was a devoted volunteer at communty events and even played Mrs Claus for years at the NA Christmas Party. She had 25 years of sobriety and experience and touched many people's lives. Kathy was a devoted grandmother to her 6 grandkids. Dallas and Dalton McCarthy (West Des Moines), Emily, Ryan and Katie Paul (Pleasant Hill) and Auden Poschner (Urbandale). She spent many hours babysitting them and swimming with them in the summer. She loved family events and dinners. Kathy loved throwing parties and getting people together to celebrate any event. She had annual Oscar Party for her friends and family. Kathy was especially proud of her 3 loving children, which she raised after she lost her husband: Carolyn McCarthy (married to Mick McCarthy), Deb Paul (married to Jason Paul) and Joseph Poschner (married to Lynn Poschner). Kathy also is survived by her older brother, Steven Mysko (married to Barb Mysko) from California. Kathy had a strong faith, and she loved attending church with her kids and grandkids through the years. A memorial service will take place at St. Mark Church Sunday, June 12th, 2016 at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Kathy's children to help pay for funeral expenses
