Kathern V. Purser

Kathern Nelson Smidt Purser, 92, passed away January 30, 2020 at the Rowley Memorial Masonic Home in Perry. Due to Covid-19 and public health concerns all public services have been cancelled. A private family graveside service will take place Wednesday April 15, 2020 at the Oakdale Cemetery. Kathern Veldeva Nelson was born September 20, 1927 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and she was the daughter of Inez Della (Pauley) and Henry C. Nelsen. Kathern attended school at Elk Horn, IA. On February 14, 1947 Kathern married Leland Smidt and to this union five children were born. They later divorced and Kathern remarried. While Kathern was a stay at home mother, she also was a seamstress, creating beautiful pieces of clothing and doing alterations. Kathern also took her talents to crafting works of art and enjoyed dancing throughout her life as well. She is survived by her children, Larry (Valerie) Smidt, Dennis Smidt, Lorraine Walker and Mark Smidt; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and extended family members. Kathern was preceded in death by her parents and a son Gail. The family of Kathern Purser would like to make a special thank you to Tom Harris with the Grimes Volunteer Support Services.
