Kathleen L. Mullins

Kathleen Louise Mullins, 63, of Windsor Heights, Iowa, died Friday, December 28, 2018, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines after a brief illness. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory in Urbandale. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 3, 2019 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Des Moines. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery. “Kathy” was born on November 14, 1955 in Washington, DC to Bernard and Marguerite Magill. She was raised in Camp Springs, MD and moved to Des Moines in May 1979 after her marriage to John Martin Mullins, Sr. Kathy was a loving wife of 44 ½ years, a wonderful mother to five awesome children and a “one-in-a-million” grandmother to nine beautiful grandchildren. Kathy will always be remembered as a skilled hairstylist, a devoted preschool teacher at Grace Methodist Preschool, a dedicated religious education teacher for over 20 years at St. Theresa Catholic Church. Kathy’s smile was contagious, she spread warmth and joy to everyone she met. She was dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children. Kathy is survived by her husband, John Mullins Sr. of Windsor Heights: five children: John (Tara) Mullins, Jr.; Daniel (Laurie) Mullins; Heather (Bobby) Mauro; Timothy Mullins; and Patrick (Thalia) Mullins. Nine grandchildren: Kendall and Sanderson Mullins; Margaret, Kenneth and Joseph Mullins; Jackson and Lucy Mauro; and Eva and Leo Mullins. Sisters: Sr. Bernard Magill, Bonnie Fleenor, Maureen Moore, Sr. Colleen Magill. Brothers: Bernard Joseph Magill Jr. and Patrick Magill. She was preceded in death by her parents Bernard and Marguerite Magill, and her brother Michael Magill.
