Graveside Services for Kathleen YeVonne Burk were held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 10, 2020 at Richland Township Cemetery in between Jamaica and Bagley with a visitation one-hour prior. Masks or face coverings were required. Hastings Funeral Home in Perry was in charge of these arrangements. Rev. Larry Monthei of Jefferson provided words of comfort. Honorary bearers were: David Karlquist, Corey Stull, Collin Burk, and Tom Huth. Casket bearers were: Kirk Wicks, Ryan Wicks, Lane Mesenbrink, Matthew Van Loon, Craig Stull, and Jim Gravett. Recorded music selected was: Whispering Hope, I Believe, One Little Candle, How Great Thou Art, and In The Garden. Kathleen YeVonne Burk, daughter of Harold Ivan Kading and Helen Scott Kirkwood Kading, was born March 7, 1938 in Pleasantville, Iowa and died October 7, 2020 at her home in Jamaica, Iowa. After Kathleen's mom and her sister Ruth Anna unexpectedly died after childbirth, Aunt Ruth Kading raised Kathleen, Thelma and Sandy. Kathleen grew up on a farm near Pleasantville and graduated in 1955. After high school she went to Iowa Teacher's College in Cedar Falls. On November 26, 1958 Kathleen and Jerry Laverne Burk were united in marriage. The couple made their home on a farm outside of Jamaica. They were blessed with five children: Jon, Lynn, Howard, Janelle, and Arlana. Kathleen got a job as an elementary teacher, then as a clerk at the post office in Jamaica. She worked her way up to be the Postmaster and retired after 27 years. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family especially traveling with Arlana. Kathleen also liked doing genealogy and gardening. Her favorite flowers were mums. She was a member of the Jamaica Union Church. Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jerry in 2000, baby sister Ruth Anna, sisters-in-law Patricia Walter and Phyllis Wicks and brothers-in-law Gene Stull and William Bishof. Kathleen is survived by her children: Jon Burk (Alicia) of Ontario, CA; Lynn Burk and Howard Burk both of Jamaica, IA; Janelle Burk O'Rourke (Kevin) of West Islip, NY and Arlana Burk of Rockaway Beach, OR; four grandchildren: James Burk, Victoria Burk, Shannon O'Rourke, and Britney O'Rourke; one great-grandson Jeremiah; brother Gary Van Loon (Cindy) of Colo, IA; sisters: Thelma Stull of Lacona, IA, Sandra Bischof of Johnston, and Kris Mesenbrink (Larry) of Gilbert; aunt Frances Kirkwood of Knoxville; brothers-in-law Jack Burk (Nancy) of Athens, GA, LeRoy Wicks of Adel and Don Walter of Fort Worth, TX; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Memorials are suggested to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or the CARES Foundation and may also be sent to Hastings Funeral Home- 1417 2nd St. Box #204- Perry, IA 50220.
