Sawyers, 91, of Winterset, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at EveryStep Kavanagh House in Des Moines. Keith Raymond Sawyers was born June 12, 1929 in Madison County, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Katherine (Kuntz) Sawyers. He graduated from Winterset High School and attended Iowa State University for two years before returning to help on the family farm. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and returned to the farm after his discharge in 1953. He married Betty Ann Smith on July 24, 1955 at the First Christian Church in Winterset. Keith farmed in Winterset all of his life. He was a director for the Greenfield REC for over 20 years and was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church of Winterset. Keith was an avid photographer and also an avid shooter and hunter. In his later years of semi-retirement, he was involved with many woodworking projects; he was an excellent woodturner and was a member of the Des Moines Woodturners. He also enjoyed time spent with family and friends. He especially enjoyed Saturday morning donut runs with his friend, Roger Hircock. He is survived by his three sons, Doug (Ann) Sawyers of Indianola, Bruce (Linda Sue Allen) Sawyers of Winterset, and Mark (Chris) Sawyers of Winterset; six grandchildren, Monica (Branden) Martin, Cathy (Andrew) Mercer, Tara (Jared) McDonald, Kylee (Curtis) Barber, Erin (Ryan) Haverkamp, and Brittany (Hunter) Hilsabeck; seven great grandchildren, Andrew, Tyson, Grayson, Sawyer, Charla, Beckett, and Graceryan. Keith was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Katherine (Kuntz) Sawyers; wife, Betty Sawyers in 2013; and daughter-in-law, Diane Sawyers.
