Kenneth Dean Newsom, 90, passed away after a brief illness September 14, 2014, at Wesley Acres John Stoddard Health Center in Des Moines. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 20 at 11 am at Windsor Presbyterian Church. Family will greet friends following the service. Burial in the Masonic section of Glendale Cemetery will be private. Born September 25, 1923 in Bloomfield Township, Village of Norwalk, to John B. Newsom and Aleas H. Newsom, he was the youngest of 10 children. A lifelong resident of Des Moines, Kenneth was a graduate of North High School. He was a staff sergeant in the 8th Army Air Corps during WWII, flying 29 missions as a tail gunner based in Sudbury, England. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Des Moines where he worked as a construction project manager for federal government buildings throughout the Midwest. Upon retirement, he continued to supervise private and commercial construction. He was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church until its closure when he and his wife joined Windsor Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Louise Newsom; a sister, Margaret "Tootie" Fluke (Loren) of San Diego; daughter Carol Newsom of Los Angeles; sons James R. Newsom (Linda) of Runnells and Thomas A. Newsom (Sandra) of Des Moines; eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
