Kenneth "David" Mcdowell

Kenneth David McDowell, son of Kenneth Chester McDowell and Bonnie LaVon Kever McDowell, was born August 12, 1948 in Des Moines, Iowa. David grew up in Perry and worked on the family farm. He graduated from Perry High School in 1967. A year later September 30, 1968, he married his soulmate Mary Phyllis Paulson at the St. Patrick Catholic Church. David was always keeping busy, mowing, pushing snow, driving his tractor, and his skid loader. He worked for Oscar Mayer, drove truck for Schaal Oil, and then for Scholastic, worked for Hastings Funeral Home, and helped with harvesting. David was very involved with the First Christian Church in Perry where he did book keeping and every Saturday the clothes closet. He was the kindest, most generous person that loved his family, friends, and life. David passed away suddenly at his home on December 20, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and LaVon McDowell, aunt Betty Johnson, father-in-law Jerome Paulson, and brother-in-law Bob Williams. David is survived by his wife Phyllis of Perry; son Chris McDowell of Des Moines; daughter Colleen Weir of Perry; grandchildren: Maddi Cross (Avery), Sara Weir (Cruz), Abbi Weir (Taevis), Riley McDowell, Ashley Sims, Kourtney Harding, and Eli Ballard; great-grandchildren: Olyvia Cross, Isaac Sanchez, Anthony Sanchez, and Noelle Sims; sister Kathy Otten (Dennis) of Linn Grove; mother-in-law Colleen Paulson; brothers-in-law Keith Paulson of Virginia Beach and J.B. Paulson of Wallingford; sisters-in-law Linda Luethje (Greg) of Cedar Falls and Jenny Williams of Davenport; other relatives, and so many friends. Visitation was held Thursday, January 5, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with family greeting hours from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2023 at the First Christian Church in Perry.
