Kenneth Utsler

Kenneth H. Utsler, Sr, 76 passed away on Friday, April 4, 2014. Kenny was born October 7, 1937 in Indianola, Iowa. With great pride, he served four years in the Navy. He retired from the City of Des Moines Forestry Department in 2000. Kenny loved spending time with family and friends; and his grandchildren fondly called him "Pa". He was always ready for a game of cribbage or pinochle. Kenny enjoyed making large family meals with his specialty being chili. Kenny was a generous man and in his later years enjoyed collecting and watching DVD movies. Kenny is survived by his children, Jeanne (William) Foster, Kenneth Utsler Jr., and Keith (Brandy) Utsler; eight grandchildren, Felix, Jodie, David, Ryan, Joshua, Hunter, Faith and Sidney; four great-grandchildren and a sister, Jean Griffith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carmen; daugther, Julie; and sister, Ruth McNew. Per his wishes Kenny was cremated and he will be laid to rest next to his wife. A graveside service will be at 1:00PM on Friday, April 11, 2014 at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 7601 Fluer Drive in Des Moines. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family or Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
