Kevin Koch

Kevin J. Koch, 65, of Cumming, Iowa, found peace and his Lord on July 12, 2023, surrounded and held in comfort by his loving family. The family will have a private service at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home. Online condolences can be expressed at caldwellparrish.com.

Kevin was the son of Jack and Sherry Koch of Des Moines, Iowa. He attended Roosevelt High School, Drake University, and the University of Iowa Medical School. There he caught the eye of Miss Susan Kelsey and subsequently, they married on August 13, 1983. That wonderful union lasted 40 years and produced three beautiful boys.

After medical school and a radiology residency and fellowship in Indianapolis, Indiana, Kevin and his family returned to Des Moines. He practiced radiology at Iowa Methodist Hospital and The Iowa Clinic, retiring after 38 years as a trusted and beloved employee. He truly loved his job and the people with whom he worked.

Kocher spent his free time with either a fishing pole or a garden hoe. He made “catching the big one” look easy and had the patience of Job as he spent hours teaching his boys to cast and reel.

His garden was the size of a football field and fruits and veggies happily grew under his watchful eye.

When not outside enjoying nature, Kevin could be found cheering on his Iowa Hawkeyes.

All who knew Kevin loved his happy disposition and generous spirit. He could discuss the weather with an enthusiasm that would make one smile and turn to the weather channel as if it were a top-rated movie.

This man, who had such a kind heart and delighted in life, will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Those left to honor his memory include; wife, Sue, of Cumming; sons, Ian (Brooke) Koch of West Des Moines, Nate Koch of West Des Moines, Cam (Lola) Koch of Clive; sisters Kelley (Stephen) Koch of Cumming, and Kim (Ken) Ludwig, of Plano, Texas; several nieces and nephews; and 7 grandchildren.

Kevin was preceded in death by parents Jack and Sherry.
