Kris Johnson

Kris Johnson, 61, of Ramsey, MN, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, April 13, 2022. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 23, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset with a visitation one hour prior beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place in the Clark Cemetery. Kris was born on January 14, 1961 in Omaha, Nebraska to Daryle and Linda Jean Bertholf Johnson. He graduated from Winterset High School in 1979 and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Iowa State University in 1983. He married Janet Koontz on June 22, 1985 at St. David’s Episcopal Church in Glenview, IL. Kris worked as a hardware logic design engineer at IBM and later became an Associate Vice President of Piper Jaffray. Kris was a proud member of the Zumbro Masonic Lodge in Rochester, Minnesota, the Merry Medics, Knights Templar, Scottish Rite, and Commandry. He was also a youth hockey coach in Minnesota. Kris enjoyed riding his bike and biked RAGBRAI twice. He rode in the Tour de Cure three times to raise money for diabetes research. Kris was also good at electrical engineering as he helped design the AS400 while working at IBM. Kris is survived by his wife, Janet Koontz Johnson; sons, Glenn Johnson and Ryan Johnson; parents, Daryle and Linda Johnson; brother, Kevin (Tammi) Johnson; and sisters, Kristie (Matthew) Haylock and Karen Johnson. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Halden and Geneva Bertholf, and Albert and Frances Johnson.
