Krista Ann Hamilton

Krista Ann Hamilton was born on June 1, 1987 in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Edgar and Susan (Johnson) Hamilton. She attended grade school in Winterset and graduated from Winterset High School in 2005. Following graduation Krista worked as a CNA for Westbridge Care and Rehabilitation as well as the Winterset Care Center North. Krista wanted to become a registered nurse and after the birth of her son, Jaxson, she was determined to start college to achieve this goal. Krista is survived by her cherished son, Jaxson Jones; her loving parents, Ed and Susan Hamilton all of Peru; beloved brothers, Frank (Nina) Burkett of Ft. Hood, TX and Jesse Hamilton of Peru; two nephews, James and Joseph Burkett; a niece, Paige Burkett all of Ft. Hood, TX; grandparents, Dorothy Johnson of Winterset and T.J. and Marilyn Hamilton of Peru; many aunts, uncles; and a host of extended family and friends. Krista was sort of a tomboy, having run in Powder Puff Derbies as well as being very mechanical. She wasn't afraid of taking things apart and getting her hands dirty. One of her pride and joys was her Red Chevy Pickup truck which she often worked on. She also loved camping, tubing and fishing, which she was passionate about. She loved to tell family and friends about the 30 lb catfish she recently snagged at Pammel Park! All that being said, Krista also loved fixing her hair; she just had a knack for it and she loved helping friends get a new look. She also loved scrapbooking and nature; especially in spring when she could pick lilacs and see the Sweet Williams in bloom. Krista was a wonderful aunt and loved children. More than anything else she loved being a mother to her baby boy, Jaxson! He was her little buddy, and being a mother was such a joy to Krista. During the last two months of her life, Krista fought a courageous battle succumbing to complications caused by H1N1. She died peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday morning, January 8, 2010, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. She lived 22 years, 7 months, and 7 days. Preceding her in death include a Grandfather, William Johnson and an Aunt Linda Fuller. Visitation: 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday; where family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., January 11, 2010 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare, Winterset, Iowa.
