Kristyn Lucille McCarthy passed away on November 17, 2023, at the age of 49 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loved ones who will continue to honor her. Kris was born to Joe and Kathy Dorf on April 3, 1974, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Kris was a shining light at Ss. John and Paul parish in Altoona where She dedicated her time and passion as a dedicated youth group leader. Her commitment to serving other extended beyond the church walls, by volunteering for Teens Encounter Christ program.

Kris’s devotion to faith was further exemplified through her active participation in the National Catholic Youth Conference, where She shared her enthusiasm for spirituality with like-minded individuals from across the country. She also helped students with the Catholic Diocese of Des Moines.

Kris was a remarkably talented and dedicated certified master florist who graced the floral world with her creativity and skills. For many years, Kris worked in the floral department at Hy-Vee and once owned her own floral company. She was a creative soul with a crafty touch.

Overall, family and faith were Kris’s priority. Her devotion to her family was unparalleled, and she showered her nieces and nephews with a love that knew no bounds.

Kris is survived by her husband of 19 years, John; father, Joe Dorf of Altoona; brother, Bill (Jen) Dorf of Ankeny; father-in-law, Bill McCarthy of WDM; brothers-in-law, Mick (Carolyn) McCarthy of WDM; T.J. (Amy) McCarthy of Norwalk; Marty (Beth) of Kansas City; Tom (Ronda) of Windsor Heights. Along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, 2 great nieces and 1 great nephew. She is preceded in death by her mother, Kathy Dorf; mother-in-law, Jody McCarthy; and her grandparents.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2023, from 5:00-7:00 pm with a rosary to follow at Ss. John and Paul Parish 1401 1 st Ave S. Altoona, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, December 1, 2023, at 10:30 am followed by a luncheon at Ss. John and Paul. Afterwards the burial will be at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
