Kurt David Karnstedt, 58, of Adel, passed away at his home on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.
Kurt was born in Elmhurst, Illinois on March 18, 1965 to Keith Duane Karnstedt and Barbara Ann (Bertotti) Karnstedt. Kurt spent his childhood in Illinois until he attended college at the University of Iowa. It was there, in Animal Bio class, that he met the love of his life Kim Roberts. The two were married on May 21, 1988, and welcomed a son, Kevin, in March of 1989. The two celebrated almost 36 years of marriage together.
After college, Kurt went on to serve his country as a member of the US Army from 1988 to 1993. Upon his return from combat, Kurt worked as a mechanical engineer and spent almost 22 years at Shive-Hattery. When he wasn’t at work, Kurt always made physical fitness a priority. He was a talented gymnast during his time at Iowa, and he continued to remain active throughout his life. He was also a lifelong Hawkeye and loved to cheer on the Hawks whenever he could.
Kurt, Kim, and Kevin lived in Lone Tree, IA for many years. Kurt and Kim were active members of the American Legion. While living in Lone Tree, he especially loved to spend time with his son, Kevin. Whether it was being a coach for his little league team or leader for the boy scout’s troop, Kurt always made sure he was there for the important moments with his family. During their years in Davenport, Kim and Kurt were involved members of Coram Deo Church and Kurt had an incredible love for Christ and was passionate about his faith. He was also a foodie and enjoyed spending time outdoors doing various activities. Above all else though, Kurt was a family man. He took so much pride in being a husband, dad, and grandfather. He will be remembered as an incredible and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many.
Kurt was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara; his grandfather, “Pops” Bertotti; his brother-in-law, Brendan Luby; his sister-in-law, Peg Petersen; and his beloved dog, Lilly.
Those left to cherish Kurt’s memory are his wife, Kim; his son, Kevin (Sophie) Karnstedt; his father, Keith; his sisters, Kay Dorjath and Kelley (Howie) Schwartz; and his grandson, Gus Karnstedt.
