Kyle Joseph Stephens

July 28, 1958 — March 12, 2024

Kyle Joseph Stephens, 65, of Grimes, Iowa passed away of natural causes on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at his home in Grimes. Kyle was born on July 27, 1958, in Mason City, Iowa, the fourth of six children of Donald and Patricia Stephens.


Kyle graduated from Iowa Falls High School in 1976. He graduated from Iowa State University with a BA in economics and a MS in Industrial Relations. Kyle served in the United States Army, graduated from the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA and served as a Russian Interpreter in Germany. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, he completed Officers Candidate School and served with the Iowa National Guard. He left the guard in January 1991 with the rank of Second Lieutenant. Kyle worked for the Center for Agricultural and Rural Development at Iowa State University and later was employed by a government contractor as a consultant with the U.S. Federal Government. He went on to work in the insurance industry as an analyst. Following retirement from State Farm Insurance in August of 2022 he moved to Grimes, IA.


Kyle loved to travel. His senior year in high school he spent the summer in Tehran, Iran as a part of the last group of American Field Service exchange students to enter Iran. He witnessed the beginning of the unrest in Iran just prior to the fall of the Shah. Kyle traveled throughout North America, Europe, Asia and the Caribbean. He loved great food. He could talk to anyone and usually did. Kyle loved to read and boat on Puget Sound.


Kyle is survived by his five siblings, Sarah Black (Craig) of Urbandale, IA, Donna Volberding (Tom) of Anaconda, MT, Dan Stephens of Waterloo, IA, Tim Stephens (Luci) of Livingston, MT and Julie Welden (Ricke) of Norwalk, IA., 13 nieces and nephews and 12 great-nieces and great-nephews. Kyle was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Pat Stephens and sister-in-law, Suzanne Stephens.


Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home and Crematory in Urbandale has been entrusted with arrangements. A celebration of his life will held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 10, 2024 at Foster Park in Iowa Falls, IA.
