Larry L. Dalton, age 77, passed away on August 19, 2022, from complications of progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP). Born October 26, 1944, in Portland, Oregon, Larry was the son of the late Kathryn Dalton. He grew up in Des Moines and graduated from Des Moines Tech High School in 1962. After graduating, Larry enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served in the Vietnam War. On September 3, 1966, he was united in marriage to Alice Gruening, and together they raised four children: Kelli, Kimberly, Tracey and Rodney. Larry enjoyed a long and successful career in the manufacturing industry, which began in 1967 at Dico Inc. manufacturing plant and continued until his retirement from Fluidrive. He earned his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Business Administration degrees from Drake University while working full-time and raising his family. He also enjoyed watching and coaching his kids in their activities and playing handball at the Downtown YMCA. Larry eventually settled in the Phoenix area, where he enjoyed daily rounds of golf, long hikes (he was known to the locals as South Mountain Larry) and time spent with family and friends. He enjoyed traveling, especially the trip he took to Hawaii with his three girls. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend who would do anything for his loved ones, especially his three girls and their families. Larry is survived by his daughters: Kelli Dalton of Phoenix, AZ; Kimberly (Todd) Thompson of Grimes, IA; and, Tracey (Tony) Stelpflug of Urbandale, IA; his eight grandchildren: Alexandra Dalton, Rylee Thompson, Jake Thompson, Dalton Stelpflug, Matthew Thompson, AJ Stelpflug, Gabriella Macera and Johnny Stelpflug; his two great-grandsons, Liam Snyder and Brody Thompson; and, his many friends and extended family members. Larry was preceded in death by his mother; his son, Rodney Dalton; and his granddaughter Morgan Zeller. A visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 23, at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, 8201 Hickman Road in Urbandale. Burial following at Glendale Cemetery with military honors.
