Larry Dean Correy

Larry Dean Correy, son of Raymond Correy and Hattie Stockburger Correy, was born January 31, 1937 on his parent's farm near Jamaica, Iowa. Larry lived his entire life in the Jamaica area, graduating Jamaica High School in 1954. He worked for his brother-in-law Errol Wilson at his service station in Rippey. On November 9, 1957, Larry was united in marriage with Janet Orndorf at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Perry. They were blessed with six children, Michael Dean; James Francis; Daniel Joseph; Beth Ann; John David; and Kristen Kay. Larry opened his own station, Correy's Phillips 66 which he owned and operated. He later was a car salesman in Perry and Jefferson. Larry was a proud, determined, hardworking man, who cared deeply for his family. His main love and joy was being near them, sharing in their lives and activities. His community was very special to him. He volunteered, was a member of the City Council, and the Lions Club. Larry loved sports and " back in the day", managed the Jamaica semi-pro team. Larry was an avid Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs Fan and was always up to a good game of cribbage. Over the years Larry cultivated many, many friendships with his great personality and ready smile. Larry died August 21, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 80. A Vigel was held on Thursday August 24, 2017 at 7:00p.m. At Hastings Funeral Home in Perry, Iowa with Deacon Dennis Wright Presiding. Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, August 25, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Patrick Catholic Church, Perry, Iowa. Celebrant was Fr. Chris Reising. Music was provided by Jan Pattee. Lectors were Brette Correy and Brady Correy. Honorary Bearers were Gene Burns (deceased), Carol Meinecke (deceased), Calvin Meinecke (deceased), Bill Nicholas (deceased), James Hogge. Orville Van Gundy, Robert Van Gundy, Mark McDermott, John McDermott, Steve Meinecke, and Jeff Meinecke. Casket Bearers were Chris Correy, Tim Correy, David Correy, Tanner Correy, Ethan Ludwig, Tye Correy, and Justin Correy. Gift Bearers were His Family. Ushers were Joe McCarty and Bill O'Hare. Interment was at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Jamaica, Iowa. Following the cemetery services there was a time of lunch and fellowship at the Jamaica Community Center. Lunch was served by friends of the Jamaica Community. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his son James Francis Correy; grandson Sean Correy; brother Dr. Maurice Correy; sisters Rita May and LaFaun Wilson and husband Errol. His precious memory will be treasured by his wife Janet of Jamaica; children Michael Correy (Melody) of Story City; Daniel Correy of Dyersville; Beth Lide (Martin) of Houston, TX; John Correy (Paula) of Johnston; and Kristen Scott (Terry) of Lee Summit, MO; sixteen very special grandchildren; Michael and Melody's children, Sean, Jessica, Madison, and Justin Correy, Nick and Olivia Thorson ; Dan's daughters Brette and Brady Correy; John and Paula's children, Hailey Hageman, Tanner and Tye Correy; Kristen and Terry's children, Ethan and Hattie Ludwig, T.J., J.T. and TerrAnnie Scott; two great grandchildren Egan and Tatum Leber; sister Geraldine Henson (Robert) of Brighton, CO; sister-in-law Nancy Correy of Waukee; nieces, nephews, cousins, and a large host of friends.
