Larry “Huffy” Hougham of Adel, beloved owner of Huffy’s Place, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, April 29th of natural causes. Larry Lowell Hougham was born January 31, 1941 in Correctionville, Iowa to Russell and Geneva (Lafferty) Hougham. He grew up in Earlham, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1959 - 1962. He returned to Earlham where he began his career as a truck driver. In 1963, he met his wife Carol Ann Whitecotton and they were married on October 2, 1964. They made their home in Adel where they had two children, Ronald and Barbra. While continuing his truck driving, Huffy and Carol opened Huffy's Place in Adel in 1981. He continued driving truck for Monarch Materials Group. He enjoyed cribbage, fishing, gambling, cars, mushroom hunting, and hosting friends at "Huffy's Round Table". He loved spending time with his family and especially spoiling his grandchildren. But most of all, he enjoyed stirring the pot. Larry is survived by his wife, Carol; son, Ronnie (Gaye) and daughter, Barb Anthony (Troy); grandchildren, Ryan Hougham and Cara Anthony; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Hougham and Loy Griffin; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Norman; and an infant sister. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be used in Larry’s honor.
