Larry George Kinsey, 71, of Van Meter, Iowa, passed away holding his wife’s hand and surrounded by loved ones on October 23, 2018. Larry is survived by his wife of 51 years, Charleen Kinsey, daughter Jessica (Jason) Sturm, son Chris (Angie) Kinsey, daughter Jennifer Kinsey, Larry’s 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren as well as two brothers Jerry (Barb) Kinsey and Barry (Bernice) Kinsey. He leaves behind many wonderful friends and extended family members whom he loved. It’s difficult to condense the life of a giant into words on a small page. Born on Dec 6, 1946 in Owatonna, Minnesota to George and Roseline Kinsey he was raised to value family and hard work. This set him up for his future successes. Larry proudly joined the army to serve the country he loved. While serving, he amassed many distinguished honors including two purple hearts. A veteran of the Vietnam war, he credited the army with setting him on a course for all his future achievements both professionally and personally. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Magne Cum Laude on March 20, 1976 from Mankato State University and was certified as an Internal Auditor in 1979. In 1985, he graduated from the school of Banking Colorado University of Colorado. Larry was especially grateful for all of the mentors who helped him along way and invested in his work. He began his career with Norwest Bank and retired as Senior Vice President of Card Services, Wells Fargo. All of these things were accomplished while building a family legacy to be proud of. Larry always found time amidst his busy career for coaching, kids’ sports, and nightly family dinners. Upon retiring, he realized his dream of raising appaloosa horses and enjoyed many years of trail riding, showing, and foal watching. Music was always a lifelong source of true enjoyment. In recent years, Larry dedicated many hours to serving the Van Meter Legion Hall as well as being an avid Van Meter Bulldog fan. He greatly enjoyed taking in his many grandchildren’s activities and supporting them in their varied interests. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Van Meter Legion Hall or Wreaths Across America.
